ARCHEOLOGICAL PLACES IN REGION OF VENERATO

Agios Antonios Area.

The area around the Saint Anthony appears to have been inhabited already in prehistoric times, and continued to be an attraction and in subsequent historical years. The ancient habitation and suggests the ancient name of the region.

Immediately west of Agios Antonios has found pottery Postpalatial years involvement with bones and shells of subsequent periods. Also on the slopes and at the top level, where the Agios Nikolaos, there are scattered shells of vessels of various historical periods as well as the ruins of ancient buildings and carvings. With these data we can conclude that on the slopes of the hill there was a Minoan-postpalatial-installation, while the entire Hill was inhabited strongly from the archaic to the Hellenistic era (7th – 1st century b.c.). Clarification of dating and of course the nature of the occupation or the use of space can be confirmed only after excavations and study findings. Finally, findings from the location "Gypsokefala", where it has detected surface pottery "years, while after seizing delivered in Xxiii EKPA vase from proto-Geometric Tomb (10th-9th c. BC). The tomb is allegedly found in the region of Venerato, but without to know the exact location. Finally, reported finding a stone plaque elaiopiestirioy Roman times also by Venerato.
