Kiparissi

Kiparissi is a village of regional Municipal section of the municipality of Heraklion, in the province of Temenos in altitude 220 m. with nice views in the 22nd mile of the road to the Prophitis Elias. The inhabitants are engaged in growing and viticulture.

Quarry was discovered accidentally in tomb of the first Subneolithic period in rock pit, where incised linear decoration vases, a figurine in the shape of boat, many small knives from obsidian and various copper objects (particularly knives) that illustrate the long habitation of space. At the peak of the Hill "Deeply" also covered a large rectangular building.

The name of the village is recorded in the Venetian censuses (1577 onwards), but not at Ottoman. The reconvene in the Census of 1881 (n. Stavraki) named Ntoympoyrtzi glebes and with different variations of this name until 1951 when the Census for the first time takes the today's name Kyparissos or (Doyrboytzion).

During a visit in the village apart from the hospitality of the inhabitants there are establishment centres and cafes you can enjoy local dishes and dishes from local produce, fruits and sweets. Walk and the path to the Church of "Agios Georgios" in Kaimenos, where you will visit the old 'Kavousi' next to the Church and the crop production orchard a little farther.

The inhabitants deal mainly with olives, viticulture, beekeeping, fruit and vegetables. Famous are the four rakokazana who operate in the village and gather guests and opponents 'raki' from across the region. In the village you will also find the famous aromatic plants and herbs "Iliostasio".

The cultural association in collaboration with the Theatre of fields located just outside of the village and with the assistance or co-organization of Heraklion's municipality develops each year an important, essential and attractive program of cultural events.

It also organizes the annual two-day feast of Saint Panteleimonas (Patron Saint of the village) on 26 and 27 July with rich events and traditional feasting.
