First mentioned by name in 1391 Evgeniki (Courtesy) of the Duke in a document file and the 1577 is no missing inventory than they were in Crete. From the Egyptian census (1834) until today the village is registered Avgeniki.
A visit to the village has to offer important experiences. Two old water mills ('Paliomilos' and 'Kalaitzi) are interesting places visited. The second fact is integrated on a nice Scenic walks which adorn two old bridges, Befrout Pasha and Mastrogiorgi Frangoulis at "Kamara", leading to beautiful old fountain .
The village also has the facilities of the Standard Winery Union of Heraklion Machining unique grapes of the region, producing the famous wines PDOs (white, red, rosé - rosé, sun dried wines) that moving internationally.
In and around the village are 15 temples with patron Saint Marina, many of which are historic with significant architecture and frescoes (eg Archangel Michael at "Vlachiana").
The village, like many others in the region is part of the integrated network "Wine Roads" because of the systematic cultivation of grape varieties from which produced famous and internationally recognized kinds of wine.
The cultural association organizes every year on June 24 in the picturesque of Klidonas in « Lower Fountain » in village and ten days (11 -17 July) events with theatrical and dance performances that surround the celebration of the patron and close with a traditional feast in rich July 17.
